Ensuring the unity of power and influence is of enormous significance for leaders. The case mainly describes how Zhang Hui, the leader of the team participating in the undergraduate innovation experimental program, lost his personal power and influence due to inappropriate leadership style, and then clashed with his three team members owing to his improper strategies adopted in response to the mismatch between his influence and power. As a result, his team has changed from “united” to “divided” and eventually disbanded. This case is intended to guide readers to reflect on what leaders should do in a gesture not to lose their influence in the organization and how they are supposed to use power and influence strategies in a correct way while leading their team members so that their power and influence can ultimately achieve unity.
