From the perspective of industrial chain transformation, this case focuses on the market-oriented reform and development process of Beijing Sugar Tobacco & Wine Group Co., Ltd. The Group is an old state-owned commercial company whose main business is wholesale of sugar, wine and other commodities. Since it established in 1949, the Group experienced many great challenges during policy transition and institution reconstruction. Faced with ever-changing and increasingly competitive market environment, the Group continued to adjust its development strategies and finally stabilized the foundation of the old state-owned enterprises and obtained steady development in the new era through continuous industrial chain transformation. This case will comb the Group’s several industrial chain transformation and upgrading strategies and discuss its experience and lessons of above-mentioned strategies and logistics practice. At the same time, the case will discuss how the Group develop in the “Internet age” and guide students to explore how can these old state-owned commercial enterprises develop themselves through further industrial chain transformation in the New Period.
