This case elaborates the transformation and upgrading of zbj.com, the largest crowdsourcing service platform in China, which grew from a grass-root startup company in ten years. Founded in 2006 with an initial fund of only 500 yuan, zbj.com now is valued 11 billion yuan. It has kept refining its business model through seven rounds of “Cloudraking Movements” and growing on the basis of an iterative exploration process. This case focuses on three aspects: Firstly, the entrepreneur team headed by Zhu Mingyue has the entrepreneurial spirit of forbearance and persistence, believing in “no sharp sword can be forged in less than ten years”. Secondly, in response to the emerging problems, zbj.com explored and designed a supply-demand matching mechanism to improve substantially match-making efficiency and to achieve a satisfactory fulfillment ratio, through successive innovations of transaction patterns based on trials and errors. Lastly, against the backdrop of big data transformation, abj.com finally abandoned the commission-based business model, switching to the “well-drilling” model in the ocean of big data and adopting the eco-model of “big data + a service platform”. This case is aimed to demonstrate the path to successful transformation and upgrade of crowdsourcing service platforms, along with the key success factors.
