Abstract:
Contemporary organizations have to adjust their strategies and launch organizational transformation timely in response to the highly dynamic and uncertain business environment. While the organizations may draft a plan of strategic transformation within a short period, it takes a long and challenging journey for organizations to transform the organizational routines accordingly, in other words, to transform the behavioral patterns by which organizations accomplish much of what they do. This case is situated in the context of the strategic transformation of a high tech company called Advantech, which is in a typically highly dynamic industry. By analyzing the inertias and achievements encountered in Avantech’s transformation towards Amoeba Management, this case summarizes the Avantech’s best practices, and discusses how to overcome the inertias against such transformation brought by organizational routines, as well as how to facilitate the transformation with organizational routines as a source of changes. Thereby, academia and practitioners may discuss how to effectively manage the change of organizational routines in the process of strategic transformation.
